The Yamuna river in Delhi has crossed the 206m level, prompting evacuations as heavy rains raise the risk of flooding and disruptions in the coming week. The river reached 206.46m by 11pm on Sunday, close to the 207m level at which significant flooding occurred a week ago. Delhi’s drains may need to be closed if moderate rains predicted for Tuesday to Thursday materialise, blocking the outlet for stormwater. The government has deployed teams to monitor potential flood points and evacuate residents from low-lying areas. Preparations are also being made to strengthen embankments and critical installations.
