The Indian Navy is launching a new search to buy 12 mine counter-measure vessels (MCMVs) from Indian shipyards to strengthen its mine-warfare capabilities. The minesweepers, capable of finding, destroying and laying mines, will be constructed over eight years, with the order split between the lowest and second-lowest bidding shipyards. The navy currently does not operate any minesweepers, with the last decommissioned in 2017. This latest attempt to purchase MCMVs comes after several failed attempts over the past 15 years.
