Controversy surrounds the inauguration of India's new parliament building, with the Congress party questioning the government?s assertion that a 5-ft-long sceptre, or "Sengol", was used to symbolise the transfer of power from Britain at India's Independence, and the BJP accusing the opposition party of disliking Indian culture. The opening ceremony is already mired in controversy after 21 opposition parties decided to boycott the event, arguing that President Droupadi Murmu should have presided over the event, not Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
