A three-member judicial commission has been set up by Uttar Pradesh to investigate the murder of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf. Three assailants, posing as journalists, killed the pair while they were at a hospital in Prayagraj city for routine health examinations. The attackers were later identified and confessed to their crimes. Ahmad had 100 cases against him and was wanted for the murder of a lawyer in February. The deaths come two days after Ahmad’s son was killed in an encounter with police, triggering allegations the shootout was staged.
