Amid SC hearing, TMC, Left back same-sex marriages, many parties remain undecided

The Trinamool Congress and Communist Party of India support legal recognition for same-sex marriages, while other political parties remain silent. The BJP opposes same-sex marriage, arguing it is an urban and elitist concept. TMC’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee endorsed marriage equality, and TMC’s Rajya Sabha leader Derek O Brien has given notice to introduce a private member bill on same-sex marriage. The CPI also supported the plea of the LGBTQ petitioners for legalising same-sex unions. Around 50 petitioners have approached the top court asking for legalisation of same-sex marriage.
