The Union cabinet has cleared the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, to replace an ordinance that gives control of Delhi's bureaucracy to the Centre. The bill is likely to face opposition from the Opposition's INDIA grouping but is expected to pass easily. The ordinance sparked a dispute between the Aam Aadmi Party and the lieutenant governor over control of the capital. The bill will be introduced in the Rajya Sabha in the coming week.
